Are you ready to see more miniature doilies?

Hot off the shuttles tonight are two more 1/12th scale miniature doilies.

This was my very first miniature tatting design,"Starlight", tatted with 100 sewing thread. The original doily appears as my blog profile photo, but that was tatted in 50wt silk so this is the very first time this design has been tatted with the finer thread. These miniature doilies are roughly the diameter of an Australian 5 cent piece, a little smaller than an American dime. They are for a customer order and will be headed interstate shortly. Here's a close-up of one of them.

I'm counting these as number four in the 25 Motif Challenge.

I find that working with tatting is great!
I bought (full scale) two doilies in Sicily, two summers ago, and I saw the difficulty of making them.
I find your work in miniature is crazy! I'd like to see the shuttles: they are miniature, too? :))
kisses from the other end of the world ...

Hi Caterina,

Yes I am crazy but then so are all miniaturists! I use the same size shuttles as for full size work, just much finer thread. It is possible to tat in miniature with a normal shuttle. However I recently had some 'mini shuttles' handmade especially for me - they are much smaller than the usual ones. I haven't tried to tat with them yet but I think I will be able to. I will post to my blog about them when I have tried them out.
